Background: US launches strikes on 3 nuclear Sites in Iran

By Philippe Toyo Noudjenoume

During the night of June 21 to 22, 2025, the US launched coordinated airstrikes on three key Iranian nuclear facilities- Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. This act is a clear and direct escalation, marking the US’ overt entry into war against Iran. Until now, they had pushed forward the State of Israel, which has shown its inability to overcome Iran’s courageous resistance. Thus, Trump’s United States, per its conduct has portrayed to the rest of the world as the actual mastermind and active participant in the war against Iran.

Donald Trump

Trump has evidently acted with calculated duplicity and diversion:

  • On one hand, it engaged Iran in dialogue under the guise of diplomacy, creating a false sense of security that culminated in the surprise assassination of several senior Iranian military officials on June 13.
  • On the other hand, while publicly announcing a two-week deliberation period before any potential military intervention, the United States proceeded to carry out this unprovoked assault, just two days later; further exposing its deliberate and misleading tactics.

The West Africa Peoples Organisation (OPAO/WAPO) therefore:

  1. Strongly condemns this barbaric aggression, which defies all international norms.
  2. Declares that through this action, the United States is laying the groundwork for the escalation of the conflict into a third world thermo-nuclear war.
  3. Calls upon African peoples, and especially those of West Africa, to protest through all means against this naked aggression and to provide all total political support to the Iranian people who are engaged in a patriotic and legitimate struggle against imperialist domination and the indiscriminate use of force.

The OPAO/WAPO stands firmly against the normalization of militarism and power politics, and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to justice, peace, and the self-determination of all peoples.
